Owning a car is a huge responsibility, no matter how experienced of a driver that you may be. In order to feel more confident on the road, it is helpful for every driver to know the following tips!

Basic Maintenance

It is important to know how to check the following on your car: oil brake fluid, antifreeze and windshield wiper fluid. Your car can die or get a flat tire at a moment’s notice. To ensure you aren’t stranded somewhere waiting for help, which who knows how long that can take. Learn how to both jump your car and change a tire. All of these are valuable skills that will last a lifetime.

Read Your Manual

Yes, most of it just throw our manuals and the glove compartment and not refer back to them until it is necessary. To stay informed about your vehicle, take time and read it from front to back. There is a lot of information specific to your make, model and year. Your manual will tell you which maintenance tasks should be prioritized, as well as hot often those things will be addressed. Critical ones include: oil changes, wiper blade replacement, filter changes, fluid flushes, and new tires. The manual will also show you what the different lights on your dashboard are referring to.

Emergency Kit

Car problems can arise at any time during any season, it is important to put an emergency kit in your car to be prepared for anything. This should include jumper cables, a flashlight, spare tire and a first aid kit. Weather specific items are helpful as well such as blankets, towels, umbrella and water. It is always better to be prepared.

Make sure you can location your personal identification, insurance card and registration. If you get pulled over or in an accident, you will need to find that information as quickly as possible.
